Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Hexe has had a rougher development cycle than a Souls boss with three phases - director departures, sudden reported design overhauls, the works. So what do you do when your game needs a credibility boost? You call in the most beloved character in franchise history, apparently.

According to Destructoid, citing a report from Insider Gaming which sourced a leaker going by the name "Rogue," the main protagonist of Hexe - a character named Anika - is a descendant of none other than Ezio Auditore da Firenze himself. On top of that, the Renaissance era's most stylish assassin is reportedly set to appear in the game in some capacity.

The Ezio effect

For the uninitiated, Ezio is basically the Geralt of the Assassin's Creed universe - the character so popular that Ubisoft made three entire games about him. Bringing him back, even in a supporting role, is the kind of move that gets lapsed fans to at least peek at the store page.

Hexe is set during the Holy Roman Empire witch trial era, with a darker, more horror-adjacent tone compared to recent entries. If the leaks hold up, framing Anika as Ezio's descendant could be a clever way to ground the new setting in familiar legacy while still swinging for something fresh.

Take this one with a full inventory of salt

It's worth noting that this is still firmly in leak territory - none of this has been officially confirmed by Ubisoft. The source is an anonymous leaker, and Hexe itself hasn't exactly been swimming in official communication lately given everything the project has reportedly been through.

Still, if Ubisoft is genuinely weaving Ezio's bloodline into Hexe's story, it might just be the XP boost this game needs to win back skeptical players. After all, nothing gets the fandom to open their wallets faster than a hooded Italian in a cape showing up unexpectedly.
