Battlefield Studios has laid out its key goals for Battlefield 6's Season 2 patch, which drops next week after being delayed in mid-January. The studio detailed several quality-of-life improvements designed to address some of the pain points players have flagged since launch.

Two of the bigger changes target progression systems that have clearly needed work. Battle pass progression is getting a speed boost, meaning the grind to unlock seasonal content should feel considerably less punishing for players putting in regular hours.

The other notable fix addresses a frustrating wall that Redsec players - those accessing the game without purchasing it outright - have been running into. Previously, these players couldn't make meaningful progress in the game's systems, which essentially penalized anyone trying the title through a subscription service or trial. Season 2 looks to correct that by letting Redsec players actually bank progression going forward.

The delay itself wasn't wasted time on the developer's end. According to VG247, Battlefield Studios revived Battlefield Labs during the gap period to stress-test new content and features planned for the season. Using a live testing environment to validate changes before a major patch is a smart move, especially for a live-service title still trying to build momentum with its playerbase.

Battlefield 6 has had a rocky road since launch, and progression complaints have been a recurring theme in community feedback. Faster battle pass advancement and closing the gap between paid and free-access players are both moves that should help with retention, which is the lifeblood of any live-service game trying to stay competitive in a crowded market.

Season 2 kicks off next week, so players won't have to wait long to see whether these changes land the way the studio intends.
