Microsoft's studios are apparently sharing more than just a corporate parent. Xbox exec Matt Booty has confirmed that Blizzard Entertainment is contributing to cinematic work on Fable, the long-anticipated RPG reboot from Playground Games.
Booty made the comments during an appearance on the Official Xbox Podcast, where he discussed how Microsoft's various development teams are increasingly collaborating across projects. The detail positions Blizzard - a studio better known for Diablo and World of Warcraft - as an unexpected but potentially significant contributor to one of Xbox's most high-profile upcoming releases.
An unusual cross-studio pairing
Blizzard has long had a reputation for producing some of the industry's most polished pre-rendered cinematics, so the collaboration makes a certain kind of sense even if the pairing feels unexpected on the surface. Playground Games has primarily built its reputation on the Forza Horizon series, meaning this is genuinely new territory for the UK-based studio when it comes to narrative-driven RPG presentation.

Fable has been in development for several years now and carries serious weight as a revival of a beloved franchise. The original Fable games, developed by Lionhead Studios under Peter Molyneux, were a defining part of early Xbox's identity - so expectations are understandably high.
Microsoft leaning into its portfolio
The revelation is also a signal of how Microsoft is trying to extract value from its massive stable of studios following the Activision Blizzard acquisition. Rather than treating each studio as a fully siloed operation, Booty's comments suggest the company is actively looking for ways to pool talent and expertise across teams.
Whether Blizzard's cinematic involvement translates into the kind of jaw-dropping cutscenes the studio is known for remains to be seen. But if Fable launches with production values that match its ambitions, this cross-studio pipeline could be a big part of why. According to Pure Xbox, Booty's comments came as part of a broader conversation about internal collaboration across Xbox's developer network.
