The crossover nobody asked for but everyone secretly wanted is finally here. As reported by Pure Xbox, Discord and Xbox have officially unveiled the Game Pass Starter Edition, a new tier baked right into Discord Nitro memberships.
The Starter Edition launches with a library of over 50 games, and the lineup is genuinely stacked. We're talking Fallout 4, Stardew Valley, DayZ, Deep Rock Galactic, Overcooked 2, and Grounded - essentially a greatest hits album of games that will absolutely destroy your sleep schedule.
So what exactly is the Starter Edition?
The offering appears to be closely aligned with the Xbox Game Pass Essential tier, meaning it's not the full fat Game Pass Ultimate experience, but it's a solid bench of titles for what amounts to a bonus on top of your Nitro sub. Think of it as a side quest reward that turned out to be way better loot than the main quest.

This isn't a complete surprise either - the partnership was first teased back in late April, when it was revealed that Nitro subscribers would be getting some form of Game Pass access. Now the full picture has loaded in, and the render distance is looking pretty decent.
Already a Game Pass member? You're not left out
Here's where it gets spicy for existing Game Pass subscribers. According to Pure Xbox, current Game Pass members are also in line to receive Discord benefits as part of this deal, meaning the value flows both ways. Microsoft and Discord are clearly trying to build a pipeline between the two platforms, and honestly, linking the place you game with the place you talk about gaming is a power move that just makes sense.
Whether this is enough to make Discord Nitro feel like a must-have subscription is debatable, but dropping 50+ games into the deal is a pretty chunky argument. Now if only they'd fix the screen share quality, we'd really be cooking.
