Peppy would be proud. Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on a remake of the beloved N64 classic Star Fox 64, simply and boldly titled Star Fox, and it is locked in for a Switch 2 launch this June, according to Nintendo Life.

Along with the announcement, Nintendo dropped the official Switch 2 box art, confirmed the price point, and even gave us an estimated file size - so you can start frantically deleting old screenshots to make room now. Pre-orders are already live, meaning you can throw your credits at this thing immediately.

A legend respawns

Star Fox 64 is one of those titles that basically invented the template for on-rails space shooters, and it has been sitting in Nintendo's vault collecting dust for far too long. This remake lands on the Switch 2 with what is presumably a fresh coat of paint, though Nintendo has kept the title stripped-back and clean - just Star Fox, no subtitles, no colons, no "Remastered Ultra Definitive Director's Cut." Respect.

The timing is pretty spicy too. A June release slots this right into the Switch 2's early lineup, giving Nintendo a nostalgia nuke to lob at anyone still on the fence about upgrading their hardware. Nothing moves consoles like a 30-year-old franchise making a comeback, apparently.

Pre-orders: engage!

If you are already sold - and honestly, if you grew up on this game, how are you not - pre-orders are live right now. Nintendo Life has the full breakdown on pricing and file size details, so barrel roll your browser over there for the specifics before stock (or patience) runs out.

Whether this will fully recapture the magic of the original or end up feeling like a side-mission we didn't ask for remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Slippy is about to become annoying all over again, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
