Just when you thought the Doom Slayer had punched enough medieval demons in the face, id Software says "hold my BFG." According to Video Games Chronicle, Doom: The Dark Ages is getting a story DLC expansion called Revelations, and it's coming next month this summer.
So the lore-hungry Doom fans who actually paid attention to the cutscenes - yes, both of you - are about to get fed. Story DLC in a Doom game feels a little like ordering a salad at a BBQ joint, but hey, if it means more rip-and-tear content, nobody is complaining.
What we know so far
The expansion is titled Revelations, which sounds appropriately apocalyptic for a franchise that treats hell itself as a light Tuesday afternoon workout. Details are still slim on exactly what the DLC covers, but given the base game's medieval dark fantasy setting, expect more swords, shields, and absolutely unhinged demon-slaying action.
The Dark Ages launched as a prequel to the modern Doom series, leaning hard into a dark crusade aesthetic - think less sci-fi corridors and more Gothic castles drenched in demon blood. A story expansion fits right into that world-building sandbox, and summer is the perfect time to fire it up when your backlog guilt is at its seasonal peak.
Should you be hyped?
If you already rinsed The Dark Ages on Nightmare difficulty while humming the soundtrack, then yes - this is basically a free health potion drop and you should absolutely be hyped. If you haven't picked up the base game yet, this DLC announcement is a solid push to finally add it to your cart.
Summer DLC drops are classic "content drought" killers, and id Software clearly knows their player base doesn't exactly chill between sessions. Keep your eyes peeled for more details as Revelations gets closer to launch - we'll be covering every demonic breadcrumb dropped between now and then.
