We don't even have an official title for the third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy yet, but trilogy lead Naoki Hamaguchi is already out here dropping hints like a man who knows exactly what he's doing. According to Eurogamer, Hamaguchi has confirmed that Chadley - the lab-coat-wearing, data-obsessed, relentlessly chipper young researcher - will be making his return in Part 3.

For the uninitiated, Chadley is the NPC who serves as the gateway to summon battles and world intel challenges throughout both Remake and Rebirth. He's basically the game's quest board with a personality transplant, and opinions on him in the fanbase range from 'harmlessly annoying' to 'please Cloud, just once, use the sword on him instead.'

Love him or hate him, Chadley is part of the squad now

The character has become one of the more polarizing figures in the modern FF7 universe - not quite a villain, not quite a hero, just sort of... there, in your earpiece, reminding you about Battle Intel while you're trying to have an emotional moment. His increasingly suspicious ties to Shinra and the Jenova experiments have kept the theorycrafters busy, though, and there's a real case to be made that Part 3 could finally cash in on those story threads.

Hamaguchi's confirmation comes at a time when Square Enix has kept Part 3 firmly under wraps - no name, no release window, no proper reveal. The fact that the trilogy lead is teasing character appearances at all suggests the dev team is deep enough into production to at least know who's showing up to the final dungeon.

The final chapter of a decade-defining remake

Whatever your Chadley alignment - and yes, apparently that's a thing now - his return signals that Part 3 will likely maintain the side-content structure that made Rebirth one of the most content-dense JRPGs of the past several years. Love grinding through open-world challenges or hate it, that DNA is clearly sticking around for the finale.

No release date has been announced. For now, fans are left to sit with the knowledge that Chadley lives to annoy another day, and honestly? At this point, the little guy has earned it.
