Lazy Bear Games and tinyBuild have officially announced Graveyard Keeper 2 for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, with a release window set for later this year. The news was reported by Nintendo Life, confirming the sequel is very much alive - or undead, rather.

The original Graveyard Keeper launched on Switch back in 2019 and built a cult following thanks to its dark humor and surprisingly deep management mechanics. The sequel looks to expand on that foundation in some genuinely interesting ways, moving beyond just running a cemetery to restoring an entire town.

More than just graves this time

Where the first game kept things relatively contained, Graveyard Keeper 2 is scaling things up considerably. According to the announcement, players will be leading a loyal undead army into battle as part of an effort to save the realm from a full-blown zombie apocalypse. That's quite the glow-up from managing burial plots and crafting grave decorations.

TinyBuild's PR describes the original as an "unhinged title," which is honestly fair. If the sequel leans further into that chaotic energy while adding proper combat and town-building layers, it could be one of the more interesting management sims to hit Nintendo hardware this year.

Dual platform launch is a smart move

Launching simultaneously on both Switch generations is a savvy call from the publisher, catching existing Switch owners while also making a case for the title as a day-one Switch 2 pick-up. Management and sim games have always had a comfortable home on handheld hardware, and the genre has only grown since the original Graveyard Keeper's release.

No exact release date has been confirmed beyond the 2026 window. Given the Switch 2's launch momentum and the built-in fanbase from the first game, this one is worth keeping on your radar if you're into management sims with a side of gallows humor.
