Bellring Games has finally slapped a release date on Mistfall Hunter, their PvPvE extraction RPG dripping in dark fantasy vibes. According to Niche Gamer, the game is launching on July 29th across PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 - so no platform left behind this time, kings and queens.

But wait, there's more loot in this chest - an open beta is kicking off on June 14th, giving players a chance to test the waters before the full release. Think of it as a free trial run before you commit your soul to the grind, which in a dark fantasy extraction RPG is honestly on-brand.

So what even IS Mistfall Hunter?

If you've been sleeping on this one, Mistfall Hunter is essentially what happens when you throw extraction shooter DNA into a dark fantasy RPG blender. You drop in, fight monsters AND other players (that's the PvPvE part), loot everything that isn't nailed down, and try to extract without getting absolutely clapped by either the environment or some sweaty player who has been grinding since beta day one.

The "dark fantasy" setting separates it from the military-style aesthetic that dominates the extraction genre. No tactical operators or realistic firearms here - just grim swords, cursed magic, and probably some eldritch horror waiting to ruin your best run at the worst possible moment. Classic genre punishment, different coat of paint.

Why this matters for the genre

The extraction genre has been absolutely popping off lately, but most big names are locked into modern or sci-fi settings. A fantasy-flavored entry with simultaneous PC and console launches on day one is genuinely a big deal - console players have historically been treated like second-class citizens when it comes to this genre.

The June 14th open beta is your chance to get in early, figure out the maps, and then absolutely bully new players when the full game drops on July 29th. Or get bodied yourself. Honestly, with PvPvE, it usually ends up being the latter. Good luck out there, adventurers.
