Blizzard has finally stopped trolling Switch players. As reported by Eurogamer, a proper Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch launched today alongside Season 2 of the Reign of Talon era - and yes, it reportedly runs at up to 60 FPS both docked and handheld. Someone at Blizzard finally plugged in a Switch 2 and thought, "hm, maybe we should optimize this."

The new version also brings improved visuals and sound quality, which means you can now hear Tracer say "cheers love" in crisp, beautiful audio while you're on the toilet. Progress, people. Real, meaningful progress.

So what else dropped in Season 2?

Quite a bit, actually. Season 2 of Reign of Talon - which is what Overwatch calls itself now that it quietly dropped the "2" like a bad Ranked match - brings a brand new hero to the roster. A new in-game event is also live, and one of the existing maps has been reworked, presumably to confuse players who finally learned all the callouts.

There are also hero balance changes in the patch, because there are always hero balance changes in the patch. Your main is probably nerfed. Sorry. It's always like this.

"Up to" 60 FPS - let's talk about those two words

Look, "up to 60 FPS" is doing some heavy lifting here. That phrase is the gaming equivalent of "results may vary" slapped on a weight loss ad. It's the speedrun caveat, the fine print, the asterisk at the end of a publisher's promise. Will it hit 60 FPS during a chaotic six-versus-six teamfight with ultimates flying everywhere? That remains a question for the brave souls who buy the game card.

Still, this is a genuine step up from what Switch players were suffering through before, and any improvement to performance on a handheld that can now actually handle the load is worth celebrating. The original Switch version of Overwatch was, let's say, "charming" in the way that a 20 FPS slideshow of a good game is charming.

If you've been holding out on returning to Overwatch until it ran properly on Switch 2, today might finally be your day to respawn. Just don't blame us when you get hooked again.
