Resident Evil Requiem is an absolute beast at retail. According to Nintendo Life, Capcom's latest mainline survival horror entry has crossed 7 million copies sold since launching on 27th February 2026 - making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise's 30-year history.
That's a remarkable pace for a series that already had some serious commercial momentum behind it. Resident Evil Village shipped 10 million copies, and RE4 Remake crossed 7 million, but neither reached those numbers this quickly after launch.

Record territory within reach
At this trajectory, Requiem isn't just the fastest-selling entry - it's a legitimate contender for the highest-selling Resident Evil game ever. The all-time crown currently belongs to Resident Evil 7, which has moved over 14 million units across its lifetime, though the series' cumulative commercial revival over the last decade means several entries are bunched up in competitive territory.
The long-tail potential here is significant. Survival horror titles tend to hold value well, and once Requiem hits its first major discount cycle - whether through seasonal sales or subscription service additions - those numbers could climb considerably. Capcom has also been smart about keeping their catalog visible across multiple platforms, which helps.

What's driving the momentum?
Requiem launched into a market that's clearly hungry for quality survival horror, and Capcom's RE Engine continues to deliver visuals and performance that make each new entry a showcase title. Word-of-mouth for these games tends to be strong when they land well, and early player reception appears to have fed directly into sustained sales rather than a sharp drop-off after launch week.
For context, 7 million copies in roughly six weeks puts Requiem well ahead of where most AAA titles end up by the time the dust settles. The series has been on an extraordinary run since RE7 rebooted the formula in 2017, and Requiem looks set to continue that streak in a big way.
