Harry Krueger, the game director who unleashed Returnal upon unsuspecting (and subsequently suffering) PlayStation owners, has founded a brand new studio called Cosmic Division, according to GamesIndustry.biz. Krueger previously served at Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind the brutally addictive roguelike third-person shooter that made players question their life choices repeatedly.
For those who somehow forgot, Returnal was the kind of game that had players throwing controllers across rooms and then immediately picking them back up because they just had to do one more run. It became a critical darling after its 2021 PS5 launch and helped cement Housemarque's reputation as one of the most interesting studios in the business - which Sony promptly acquired, because of course they did.

A new game+ begins
Krueger stepping out to form Cosmic Division feels like the classic "leave the dungeon to start your own dungeon" arc that we keep seeing from veteran developers. Whether this means we are getting another brain-melting, loop-twisting, death-screen-staring experience remains to be seen - but honestly, based on his track record, we would not have it any other way.
The studio name itself - Cosmic Division - carries some serious interstellar vibes that align pretty neatly with Returnal's whole "trapped in an alien time loop" energy. Whether Krueger is planning to go full sci-fi again or is about to completely subvert expectations with a cozy farming sim called Returnal: Harvest Moon, we genuinely have no idea.

Why this matters
Independent studios founded by industry veterans with serious pedigree are always worth watching closely. Krueger has already proven he can ship a game that punches way above its weight class and sticks in people's memory banks long after the credits (eventually) roll. Cosmic Division is now on the radar, and the gaming world will be watching for whatever this new studio has loading in its chamber.
No game announcements have been made yet - details remain slim at this stage - but given who is behind the wheel, the hype meter is already creeping upward. Keep an eye on this one.
