Hold onto your boost meters, because Psyonix just pulled off a certified aerial at the Rocket League Championship Series Paris Major this weekend. The developer announced a full "new era" for the beloved car-soccer title, and it's coming strapped with a shiny new Unreal Engine 6 upgrade, according to Nintendo Life.
"New era, new engine" - that's the motto, and honestly it slaps harder than a supersonic demolition. The free-to-play game will be making the jump to Epic Games' freshly revealed Unreal Engine 6 at some point in the future, which sounds like it could be a massive technical glow-up for the game.

Epic didn't stop at just Rocket League either - Fortnite also made a brief cameo in the reveal trailer, because apparently Epic's answer to every major announcement is "yes, and also Fortnite." Classic Epic behavior, respawn and repeat.
Why this actually matters
A new engine migration is no small feat - this is basically Psyonix pressing the reset button on the game's entire tech stack. For a game that has been running on Unreal Engine 3 for years (yes, really, we have been playing on ancient tech this whole time), this could mean smoother performance, better visuals, and who knows - maybe even fewer instances of the ball clipping through the goal post at a critical moment in ranked.

The announcement dropping at the RLCS Paris Major is a smart power play too. Nothing says "we are still invested in this game" like revealing a generational engine upgrade in front of your most dedicated competitive fanbase. Psyonix is basically respawning with full boost.
No hard release window was given for when the Unreal Engine 6 version will actually go live, so for now we are left in the training mode of hype - lots of potential, zero scoreboard. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more details as they drop.
