Level-5 is bringing Snack World back to life with Snack World Reloaded, a remake heading to Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and PC, according to Siliconera. The project is currently in development with no release window announced yet.
The remake is based on the updated version of the Japan-exclusive Trejarers, which Western players may recognize as The Dungeon Crawl - Gold on Switch. That earlier release was itself a localized and expanded take on the original 3DS title, so Reloaded builds on the most feature-complete version of the game.
A cross-media franchise gets another shot
Like other Level-5 properties, Snack World spans multiple formats - it originated alongside an anime and manga series. True to that design, the remake features both a custom personal avatar and the main character from the anime and manga, giving it that signature Level-5 cross-media DNA.
The original game flew under the radar for many Western players despite having genuine charm as a loot-driven dungeon crawler with a quirky sense of humor. A multiplatform remake targeting Switch 2, PS5, and PC simultaneously suggests Level-5 is serious about giving the IP a much broader audience this time around.
Level-5 on a comeback trail
This announcement fits into a larger pattern of Level-5 re-emerging on the global stage after years of relative quiet outside Japan. The studio has been steadily signaling renewed ambition with various announcements, and bringing Snack World to current hardware - including Sony's platform for the first time - points to a more aggressive multiplatform push.
No pricing, release date, or gameplay details beyond the platform targets have been confirmed yet. Given the game is still in development, it could be a while before we see it in action, but the announcement alone is enough to have fans of the original quietly excited.
