Publisher rokaplay and developer Cyberwave have locked in a launch date for Solarpunk, their laid-back survival title built around floating islands and a calmer pace than the genre usually offers. The game hits on June 8th, according to Niche Gamer, and it's coming to a wide range of platforms simultaneously.
Solarpunk will be available on Windows PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, as well as Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2. That's a strong multi-platform day-one release for what looks to be an indie title with genuine crossover appeal.
A different kind of survival game
The "chill survival" label gets thrown around a lot, but Solarpunk seems to lean into it fully. The floating island setting gives the game a distinct visual identity, separating it from the forest-and-caves aesthetic that dominates so much of the survival genre right now. Think less punishing resource grind, more peaceful crafting and exploration.
A new trailer dropped alongside the announcement, giving players a closer look at the game's art style and loop. The solarpunk aesthetic - bright, nature-forward, and optimistic - translates well to the survival format, offering something visually distinct from darker genre competitors.
Timing and competition
June 8th puts Solarpunk in a reasonably busy summer window, but the chill survival niche has proven it can find a dedicated audience. Games like Subnautica and Astroneer built strong communities by offering survival mechanics without the constant threat-and-punishment loop of harder titles. Solarpunk looks to carve out similar space.
Landing on Switch 2 at launch is also a smart move - the hybrid console's player base skews toward exactly the kind of relaxed, pick-up-and-play experience Solarpunk appears to be offering. With same-day availability across all major storefronts, there's minimal friction for players on any platform to jump in.
Solarpunk launches June 8th on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
