A fresh PEGI rating listing has surfaced suggesting that Tales of Eternia - one of the more overlooked entries in Bandai Namco's long-running JRPG franchise - could be getting the remaster treatment, according to Game Rant. Rating board submissions have historically been reliable early indicators of unannounced titles, so this one is worth paying attention to.
Tales of Eternia originally launched on PlayStation in 2000 in Japan, later reaching Western audiences in 2002, and received a PSP port in 2006. The game is notable for introducing the Lens mechanic and featuring a dual-world narrative that was ambitious for its time, but it has remained largely inaccessible to modern players without hunting down aging hardware.

A surprise pick for the anniversary
What makes this particularly interesting is the timing. The Tales of series is approaching its 30th anniversary, and Bandai Namco has already demonstrated appetite for revisiting classic entries with remasters of Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia in recent years. Eternia would be a less expected choice compared to fan-favorite heavy hitters, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - a lot of players simply never got the chance to experience it.

The game features a solid cast, a distinctive battle system for its era, and a soundtrack from Motoi Sakuraba that holds up remarkably well. Bringing it to modern platforms would give a whole generation of JRPG fans their first real shot at playing it without emulation.

What to expect
No official announcement has been made by Bandai Namco, and the publisher has not commented on the listing. Rating submissions don't guarantee a full reveal is imminent, but they rarely appear without something being close to launch or at least close to announcement.
Given the anniversary context and the publisher's recent pattern of remaster releases, it would make sense for Bandai Namco to package this alongside some kind of celebratory event or broadcast. JRPG fans would do well to keep an eye on upcoming Bandai Namco directs or showcase appearances in the coming months. If Eternia does make a comeback, it could be a genuinely pleasant surprise for the franchise's dedicated community.
