BeXide, the Japanese developer behind the project, has officially confirmed a May 28th release date for Touhou Yukkuri Mountain - a brand new 3D puzzle game set in the iconic Touhou universe, according to Niche Gamer. The date was, hilariously, already leaked by the game's own eShop page before the announcement. Classic Nintendo eShop, always speedrunning the reveal before the devs can.

The game launches on Windows PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, and the shiny new Switch 2 simultaneously. So whether you're a portability chad or a desk dweller, you're covered on day one.

So what even IS this game?

Touhou Yukkuri Mountain is described as a 3D puzzle game that leans hard into the "take it easy" energy - which, if you know anything about Yukkuris (those round, floating Touhou-derived meme creatures), tracks perfectly. It's a far cry from the franchise's signature bullet hell gameplay, but honestly? Sometimes you just want to solve puzzles instead of dodging 10,000 projectiles.

The game is inspired by the broader Touhou Project universe, which has spawned an absolutely unhinged amount of fan content, spin-offs, and internet culture over the decades. BeXide is clearly tapping into that cozy, meme-adjacent corner of the fandom rather than the "your eyes and brain are filing for divorce" corner.

Why should you care?

If you've been sleeping on Touhou as a franchise because the mainline games require reflexes that most mortals simply do not possess, this might genuinely be your entry point. A chill 3D puzzle game with Touhou aesthetics and that signature chaotic-but-charming energy could be exactly the side quest this franchise needed to pull in new players.

May 28th is right around the corner, so start warming up those puzzle-solving neurons. The mountain awaits, and it is definitely not going to take it easy on you - even if it says it will.
