Ouch. If you were hyped to slash your way through the wuxia world of Wandering Sword on PS5 this coming May 28, consider yourself stunned-locked. Publishers Clouded Leopard Entertainment and Spiral Up Games, alongside developer The Swordman Studio, have officially pushed the PS5 version back to January 21, 2027, according to Noisy Pixel.

That's not a minor patch delay, that's a full-on boss-room wipe and a long walk back from the bonfire. We're talking almost an entire year of extra waiting for PS5 fans who had already marked their calendars.

A silver loot drop in the delay chest

Not all the news is a debuff, though. The studio used the occasion to announce that an Xbox Series X|S version is also entering the fray, dropping on the exact same day - January 21, 2027. So while PlayStation players got slapped with a delay, Xbox players are at least spawning into the same lobby for launch day.

The Switch 2 version was already in the pipeline and will now share that January 21, 2027 release date as well, making it a full multi-platform simultaneous drop across three platforms. A coordinated release strategy that, honestly, makes a lot more sense than a staggered rollout - even if the wait is brutal for PS5 owners who've been patient since the PC version launched.

So what even is Wandering Sword?

For the uninitiated - yes, you in the back scrolling past - Wandering Sword is a wuxia-style RPG with turn-based combat, a rich cast of recruitable characters, and a world soaked in classic Chinese martial arts fiction vibes. Think less Dark Souls and more classic JRPG, but make it ancient China with swords and qi energy flying everywhere.

The PC version has been out for a while, so console players are already playing catch-up. Now that catch-up timer just got extended by several more loading screens worth of months. Whether the January 2027 window holds or suffers another delay is, of course, the real final boss here.

Mark your calendars, set seventeen reminders, and maybe go touch some grass while you wait. January 2027 will arrive eventually - probably.
