Put down your energy sword for a second, because this is big. Game Informer got an exclusive hands-on with all three bonus missions included in Halo: Campaign Evolved, the upcoming remake dropping July 28, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Yes, you read that right - PlayStation 5. The ring has expanded, Spartans.
As part of a visit to Halo Studios back in May - tied to Game Informer's cover story reveal - a writer sat down and played through the full trio of new missions. According to Game Informer's preview, these missions are set before the events of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, meaning this is prequel territory. We're talking lore drops before the Master Chief even set foot on Installation 04.

Think about what this means for the story nerds in the back row. Halo: Combat Evolved's opening always threw players straight into the chaos aboard the Pillar of Autumn with almost zero runway. These bonus missions are essentially Halo Studios saying "here, have some context" - and frankly, it's the kind of extra content that makes a remake worth buying instead of just emulating on PC at 4K like some kind of digital archaeologist.

Halo Studios - formerly known as 343 Industries after the rebrand - is clearly swinging for the fences with this one. A full remake, cross-platform availability, AND three brand-new prequel missions? That's not a remaster, that's a whole new save file.

Whether the missions actually slap or feel like bonus DLC shoved in to justify the price tag remains to be seen from the full preview, but the fact that Game Informer got hands-on time with all three before launch suggests Halo Studios is confident enough not to hide them in a back room. That's either a great sign or the most elaborate speedrun bait in franchise history.
Halo: Campaign Evolved launches July 28, 2026. Full impressions from Game Informer are available at their site following the cover story reveal.
