Shaken, not stirred, and absolutely loaded with cash. IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have announced that 007 First Light shifted over 2.7 million copies in its first week on sale, according to Push Square. The figure was confirmed officially by both companies and shared across their social media channels.
For context, IO Interactive are the Hitman guys - the studio that spent years sneaking Agent 47 into fancy parties and dropping chandeliers on unsuspecting targets. Handing them the keys to Bond's Aston Martin was always going to be either a masterstroke or a catastrophic mission failure. Spoiler: it was the masterstroke.
Nearly 3 million copies. In a week. On a PS5 exclusive.
That number is genuinely impressive for any game, but particularly for one launching exclusively on PlayStation 5. The install base naturally caps the potential audience compared to a multiplatform release, which makes blowing past 2.7 million units in seven days feel less like a victory lap and more like a full Bond car chase sequence with no brakes.

The game had been generating serious hype since its reveal - a fresh origin story for a younger James Bond, handled by a studio with an almost unfair track record of making sandbox action games feel slick and satisfying. The early buzz suggested IO had cracked the code on adapting one of gaming's most historically cursed licenses. The sales numbers suggest players agreed.
What does this mean going forward?
With nearly 3 million copies sold in week one, 007 First Light is looking less like a gamble and more like the beginning of a full franchise. IO Interactive previously built the World of Assassination trilogy across multiple Hitman entries, suggesting they have the patience and the structure to do something similarly ambitious with Bond.
Whether that means sequels, expansions, or just a very nice bonus for everyone at the studio who spent years keeping this project secret remains to be seen. But one thing is certain - the mission was very much accomplished, and Q's gadget budget for the next game is probably looking very healthy right now.
