After nearly two decades as CEO of VR studio nDreams, Patrick O'Luanaigh has hit New Game+ on his career. He has officially launched Atmospheric, a fresh independent studio described as "a new independent entertainment company creating original intellectual property across games and music," according to GamesIndustry.biz.
O'Luanaigh stepped down from nDreams in May 2025, roughly 18 months after the studio was acquired by Aonic. Nineteen years at the helm of one company is basically a speedrun world record for executive patience, so you can hardly blame the man for wanting a fresh save file.

Before founding nDreams, O'Luanaigh stacked up experience points at some serious industry juggernauts - holding senior roles at SCi, Eidos, and Codemasters. The guy basically has a legendary-tier resume, so whatever Atmospheric is cooking up, he is not exactly coming in as a noob.
Games AND music? Bold build
The "games and music" angle is the real eyebrow-raiser here. Most studios park themselves firmly in one lane, but Atmospheric seems to be going full crossover event with its original IP ambitions. Whether that means games with deep musical mechanics, companion soundtracks, or something completely off the map remains to be seen.

It is early days and details are thinner than a tutorial level, but the pedigree behind the studio is hard to ignore. O'Luanaigh helped build nDreams into one of the most recognized names in the VR space, so watching him swing at entirely new IP from the ground up is going to be one of the more interesting sidequests to follow in the industry right now.
No game announcements, no release windows, no trailers - just vibes and potential for now. But hey, every legendary studio started as a blinking cursor on a blank screen. We will be keeping our eyes on this one.
