Peppy would be proud. Nintendo has announced that a free demo for the upcoming Star Fox on Switch 2 is landing today, giving curious pilots a chance to get their hands on the cockpit before the full game launches, according to Game Informer.

The demo is not just a glorified title screen, either. Players will get access to a tutorial and one of the opening stages - and before you ask, Game Informer notes that the stage selection implies it will NOT be Corneria. So the classic fan-favorite intro level is being kept behind the paywall of patience, at least for now.

Think of it as Nintendo handing you a trial ship before you go all-in on the full fleet. It is a smart move from the Big N - letting players dip their toes into the Lylat System and see whether the franchise still has the barrel-rolling chops to justify a day-one purchase.

Why this matters

Star Fox has been in a cargo hold gathering space dust for what feels like several console generations. The Switch 2 entry is shaping up to be the franchise's big comeback arc, and giving players a free demo today is essentially Nintendo saying "we are confident enough to let you try before you buy."

That kind of confidence is either the sign of a genuinely great game, or the boldest respawn gamble in recent memory. Either way, we respect the play.

When can you play it?

The demo is going live today - as in, the same day Nintendo announced it, which is either extremely cool or extremely stressful for your download queue. The full game launches June 25 for Switch 2, so you have got a couple of weeks to grind that demo stage into the ground and decide whether Fox McCloud deserves your wallet's attention.

If you want more than just hype before jumping in, Game Informer also has hands-on impressions of Star Fox available on their site. Do yourself a favor and check those out while the demo downloads.
