Landfall, the studio behind Totally Accurate Battle Simulator and Content Warning, has announced a new publishing label called Evil Landfall. According to GamesIndustry.biz, the reveal came during the studio's Landfall Day Stream on April 1, when the familiar white Landfall logo dramatically split in two - with a sinister red "Evil Landfall" logo appearing on the right side.
The move puts Landfall in growing company among indie studios that have pivoted into publishing. Rather than just developing their own titles, they're now positioning themselves to help bring other developers' games to market under the Evil Landfall banner.

The April 1 timing might make you do a double-take, but this appears to be a legitimate business move rather than an elaborate joke from a studio that's clearly not shy about leaning into absurdist humor. Landfall has built a reputation for chaotic, physics-driven games with a distinctly playful identity, so branding a publishing arm as "Evil" is very on-brand for them.

Indie publishing labels have become an increasingly common strategy in the space. Studios that have found success with their own releases often develop strong expertise in areas like marketing, community management, and platform relations - skills that translate well into helping smaller or newer developers navigate those same challenges. Devolver Digital is arguably the most high-profile example of an indie-rooted publisher, but plenty of others have followed a similar path.

For Landfall, launching Evil Landfall makes a lot of sense given their trajectory. Content Warning, their co-op horror game, blew up earlier in 2024 after a surprise free launch period, demonstrating the studio's ability to generate serious buzz and community momentum. That kind of publishing instinct - knowing how to get people talking - is exactly what smaller developers are looking for in a partner.
Details on what games Evil Landfall plans to publish haven't been fully outlined yet based on current reporting, but the label's launch signals that Landfall is thinking beyond just its own development slate. Keep an eye on this one - a studio with Landfall's community reach and genre credibility could make Evil Landfall a genuinely interesting home for weird, experimental indie titles.
