According to Push Square, there's some seriously compelling evidence pointing to Gears of War: E-Day dropping in September - and that timing is about to cause some major problems for everyone's wallet.
The smart money says The Coalition is deliberately dodging the GTA 6 freight train by going September, but they might be jumping straight from the frying pan into the fire. Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine is locked in for September 15th on PS5, which means we could be looking at one of the juiciest console war boss fights of the year.
Two heavyweights, one month, zero chill
On one side you've got Logan, claws out, doing his best "I'm the best there is at what I do" impression as a PS5 exclusive. On the other side, the Gears boys are revving their chainsaws and preparing to remind everyone that cover-based shooters still absolutely slap. This is the kind of release calendar chaos that makes gaming journalists do a little happy dance.

The big question hanging over all of this like a Locust Horde is whether E-Day will actually come to PS5 at all. Microsoft has been increasingly PlayStation-friendly with its releases lately, so it's not completely off the table - but nothing has been confirmed. If it stays Xbox and PC exclusive, this is less of a head-to-head and more of a "different demographics, different platforms" situation.
What does this mean for your backlog?
Honestly? Pain. Pure, unadulterated backlog pain. If both games land in the same month, gamers are going to have to make some very serious financial and emotional decisions. September is shaping up to be the final boss of 2026's release calendar - and your bank account is already on its last health bar.
No official release date for E-Day has been confirmed yet, so treat all of this as "strong rumour" territory for now. But if the stars align and these two juggernauts really do go head-to-head, September 2026 is going to be absolutely unhinged in the best possible way.
