Just when you thought the White Wolf had hung up his silver sword for good, CD Projekt Red is dragging Geralt back into the fray. According to PCGamesN, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is officially receiving new DLC called Songs of the Past, and it's being described as a "full-fledged expansion" - not some cosmetic horse armour cash grab.
Yes, you read that right. A brand new, full-sized expansion for a game that came out in 2015. At this point, The Witcher 3 has more lives than a cat playing on Nightmare difficulty.

One more quest before retirement (again)
The expansion stars Geralt of Rivia himself, which is notable given that the franchise has been tiptoeing toward a Ciri-led future. This isn't just fan service for the greybeards among us though - Songs of the Past is reportedly designed to set the stage for the next Witcher sequel, making it essential lore homework for anyone who doesn't want to be the clueless player asking "wait, who's that?" in the next game's opening cinematic.

Think of it as the ultimate side quest before the main story of a new era begins. Classic RPG move: finish the old campaign, do the bonus content, then boot up the sequel feeling like an absolute lore goblin.

Why now? Why ever? Why not.
CD Projekt Red returning to The Witcher 3 for new story content is a bit like a speedrunner going back to collect every missed collectible after rolling credits. Sure, nobody asked for it - but deep down, everybody wanted it. The game already got a next-gen upgrade in 2022, so the engine is clearly still getting some love.
For veterans who've already completed every contract, found every Place of Power, and ugly-cried through all three endings, Songs of the Past is basically a gift drop from the devs. For newcomers who somehow haven't touched this masterpiece yet - what are you even doing? This is your sign to finally install it.
No firm release date has been confirmed yet, but the hype bar is already set at "Eredin is quaking." Stay tuned for more details as CD Projekt Red presumably teases this one witcher card at a time.
