Jonathan Blow, the director behind The Witness and Braid, has confirmed that his upcoming puzzle game Order of the Sinking Star will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in addition to PC. The announcement comes a few months after the game's initial reveal at The Game Awards in December, where it was shown as a PC title only.
Blow and his studio Thekla are describing the project as a massive puzzle mash-up, which already puts it in interesting territory given Blow's pedigree. The Witness remains one of the most densely designed puzzle games ever made, so the promise of something even more ambitious in scope is worth paying attention to.
According to Game Informer, the Switch 2 version is targeting the same 2026 release window as the PC build, meaning both platforms should ship simultaneously rather than one getting a later port. That's a meaningful commitment, especially for a studio the size of Thekla.
The catch is that a specific release date still hasn't been pinned down. Blow and the team are keeping things at a broad "2026" for now, which leaves a pretty wide runway. Given the scale Blow is apparently aiming for with this one, that caution is probably warranted.
Switch 2 is shaping up to attract some notable puzzle and indie titles alongside its bigger first-party lineup, and Order of the Sinking Star looks like a strong fit for Nintendo's new hardware. Portable puzzle games have always had a natural home on Nintendo platforms, and the Switch 2's improved specs should handle whatever Thekla has built without compromise.
There's no word yet on other console platforms like PS5 or Xbox. For now, players on PC and Switch 2 are the confirmed audience. More details will likely surface as 2026 progresses.
