Grab your flashlights and prepare to make terrible decisions in dark forests, because Sony has officially announced Until Dawn 2, according to Video Games Chronicle. The sequel is locked in for a release sometime next year, so start practicing your 'don't investigate the weird noise' muscle memory now.

Who's behind the scares this time?

Firesprite, a Liverpool-based studio under the Sony umbrella, is handling development duties on this one. If you were hoping the original Supermassive Games would be returning to the cabin in the woods, well - surprise, new hands on the cursed artifact.

Why this is actually a big deal

The original Until Dawn was basically THE gateway drug for interactive horror games back in 2015. It turned a generation of players into sweaty, butterfly-effect-obsessed maniacs who reloaded saves just to watch a character get absolutely wrecked anyway. The 2024 remake kept the franchise alive on PC and PS5, proving there's still an audience ready to scream at their screens.

Firesprite isn't exactly a horror rookie either - the studio has been quietly leveling up under Sony's wing, and this looks like their big boss-fight moment to prove they can carry a beloved IP without dropping it in the lake.

What we don't know yet (which is most things)

Story details, platforms, whether anyone from the original cast is returning - Sony is keeping those cards extremely close to the chest for now. What we do know is that the 'release next year' window means the hype train is officially departing the station, and fans are already stress-eating popcorn in anticipation.

One thing is practically guaranteed though: someone is going to open a door they absolutely should not open, and we are ALL going to yell at them to stop before doing it ourselves on our next playthrough. See you in the dark, survivors.
