While some games are out here struggling to even launch their betas, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is still stomping through the competition like a Dreadnought through a Tyranid swarm. According to PC Gamer, the game just dropped a steep discount AND a free trial, because apparently dominating the multiplayer charts wasn't enough flex.
Siege Mode just got a full respawn
The headline update here is a major revamp of Siege Mode, the game's horde-style multiplayer offering. The overhaul is designed to make sessions "quicker and more intense" - which is developer speak for "we heard you, and yes, we are adding more exploding bugs per square meter."

If you've been sleeping on Siege Mode, this is basically the patch that turns it from a side quest into a main story mission. Faster rounds mean lower friction for jump-in-jump-out co-op, which is exactly what a working adult with three kids and seventeen unfinished games needs.
Free trial + discount = no more excuses, heretic
For the uninitiated, there's now a free trial to dip your power-armored toes in before committing. Combine that with the steep discount reported by PC Gamer, and the barrier to entry is now roughly as thick as a Guardsman's plot armor - which is to say, practically nonexistent.

If your Steam backlog is already a war crime, congratulations, you're about to add another entry.
Meanwhile, Marathon is still buffering
The real kicker here is the multiplayer comparison. PC Gamer notes that Space Marine 2's multiplayer numbers continue to outpace titles like Marathon - Bungie's long-awaited extraction shooter that has been generating more discourse than actual gameplay. It's a little embarrassing when a game about shoulder-charging aliens into paste is out-lobbying a studio with Halo and Destiny on its resume.

Space Marine 2 launched in late 2024 and refused to act like a live-service game with an expiry date - instead putting in patches, updates, and actual content like it's trying to earn a commendation from the Chapter Master. At this point, it might just be the most quietly dominant shooter on PC right now, and this update makes sure it stays that way.
The FOR THE EMPEROR pipeline has never been more affordable.
