Good news for Falcom faithful - according to Siliconera, both Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure, the beloved Crossbell arc duology from The Legend of Heroes series, are making their way to Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. That's right, Lloyd Bannings and the Special Support Section are getting a serious hardware upgrade.
For the uninitiated, the Crossbell arc sits right in the meaty middle of the legendary Trails saga - sandwiched between the Sky arc and the Cold Steel saga like the most important filling in a JRPG sandwich. These two titles were notorious for taking forever to reach Western shores, so seeing them get modern platform ports is basically a miracle drop from a final boss chest.
Why this is a bigger deal than it sounds
The Trails series is basically the Dark Souls of JRPG lore investment - except instead of cryptic item descriptions, you get thousands of lines of dialogue that actually explain everything in meticulous detail. Newcomers jumping into the Switch 2 or PS5 versions will have zero excuses to skip this critical chapter in one of gaming's most ambitious continuous narratives.
The Crossbell games originally launched in Japan in 2010 and 2011 respectively, but Western fans had to wait until 2022 to get official English localizations, courtesy of NIS America. Getting these titles onto current-gen hardware means even more players can experience the story of Crossbell City before diving into the Cold Steel games, which is - trust us - the correct way to do things.
More ports incoming? The party might keep growing
With Falcom and NIS America clearly committed to keeping the Trails library alive across modern platforms, this feels like the franchise is finally getting the AAA treatment it deserved years ago. Whether this means enhanced visuals, quality-of-life improvements, or just straight ports remains to be seen - but at this point, any excuse to replay the Crossbell arc on a shiny new console is a quest worth accepting.
No release date has been confirmed yet, so for now, fans will just have to sit in the tavern, sip their virtual coffee, and wait for more intel to drop.
