Dungeon RPG veterans Experience Inc. have locked in a release date for their latest title, Demon Kill Demon: Yomi 1984. According to Niche Gamer, the game is set to launch on Nintendo Switch in Japan on May 28th, with both a digital eShop release and a physical retail version available at launch.
What we know so far
Experience Inc. have built a serious reputation in the dungeon crawling space, with franchises like Stranger of Sword City and Death Mark cementing them as genre specialists. Demon Kill Demon: Yomi 1984 looks to continue that tradition, blending the studio's signature dungeon RPG mechanics with what appears to be a distinctly Japanese horror-influenced setting rooted in the 1980s.
The "Yomi" in the title references the Japanese underworld from Shinto mythology, which fits snugly with Experience's history of weaving supernatural and folkloric elements into their games. Pair that with the retro 1984 framing and you've got a concept that sounds genuinely distinctive, even within a genre that Experience knows better than almost anyone.
Japanese launch first
The May 28th date is Japan-specific for now, with no Western release window confirmed at this stage. That's fairly standard for Experience titles, though their games have made their way West before - sometimes through partnerships with publishers like Aksys Games or NIS America. Fans outside of Japan will want to keep an eye out for any localization announcements in the months ahead.
The dual physical and digital launch is a nice touch for collectors, especially given how niche (no pun intended) physical Switch releases are becoming for smaller Japanese studios. If you're a fan of first-person dungeon crawlers and haven't slept on Experience's back catalog, this one looks like a solid addition to the Switch library when it drops this spring.
